Federal Stafford Loans
Stafford Loans have low interest rates and can be taken by the student without a co-signer.
Depending on financial need, the government may subsidize Stafford Loan interest while you are in school (for subsidized loans). All students are eligible for a Federal Stafford Loan, but in order to borrow, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA can be filled out online at the Department of Education's website (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov). The yearly and cumulative amounts you can borrow under the Stafford loan program are capped, and vary based on your academic level. Your base eligibility can be any combination of subsidized and unsubsidized loans, while the additional amount is only unsubsidized. Contact your Financial Aid Office for loan limit and loan term information, or visit www.studentloans.gov.
Important: Credit Union Student Choice does not offer a Stafford Loan product. Effective July 1, 2010, the Federal Government is the sole lender on Stafford loans. All schools offer these loans direct from the Government (Direct Stafford loan). Please contact your school's Financial Aid Office for information on
Stafford Loan options or click here.
